Uptown RiverFest in Columbus, Georgia
Enjoy a beautiful back country road drive from Tennille to Columbus, Georgia and you are bound for an adventure. Deep River Outfitters was on the road again this past weekend to the Uptown RiverFest at the beautiful Woodruff Riverfront Park near the Columbus State College of Arts facilities on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. Actually, this was a return trip for us—not to RiverFest, but to Columbus. A few weeks ago, we attended the Frogtown Crawfish Festival in Uptown Columbus and we had been looking forward to our return ever since.
We arrived in Columbus Friday afternoon to learn that we would not be vending on the Dillingham Street Bridge for RiverFest, which was a pleasant surprise because last time we almost lost our tent to the waters of the Chattahoochee below. This time, we were tucked in tight to the west end of the Riverside Theatre complex. We secured our tent to anything we could find and were able to relax in the violent gusts throughout the two-day event.
Fully setup with some time to spare before the event got rockin’…or should I say, got funky, we had plenty of time to play frisbee in Woodruff Park and meet some of our neighbors. We loved hanging out with Erin from The Posh Peach, a boutique just blocks away on Broadway. Kevin and Bonnie from the Georgia Soap Company provided some amazing soaps and bath products, honey, and soy candles. I tried the Relaxed Hippie Natural Bar Soap and Ginger Honey sticks. Both products are among the best I’ve tried…and tasted! We also had the privilege to hang out with Erica, from For the Nations, an extremely talented jewelry artist! We are excited about Erica’s love for the Lord and were blessed to hear her story and enthusiasm for blessing the nations through her art. Stay tuned, because we hope to be carrying some of Erica’s jewelry soon…until then, check out her Etsy store HERE.
Oh, and we cant forget our friends at Outside World Outfitters! We were blessed by so many people (…and dogs) that we met in Columbus. It was great hanging out and chatting with all of you!
The music was loud and funky. We really enjoyed most of the bands. Friday was headlined by an Earth Wind & Fire cover band. Let’s just say they were the “shining star” of the night. Saturday featured Lloyd Buchanan, a gospel and blues artist currently touring with Grammy Awarding winning band, Alabama Shakes.
If we are going to write a blog about our adventure we can’t leave out our accommodations. Honestly, the hotel we stayed in turned out to be less than ideal…thank you Priceline for the high customer rating of a sub-par experience. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy our time in Columbus and look forward to seeing you all again soon!
